Burlap Halloween Wreaths

I now have a love/hate relationship with burlap.  It is a shedding, itching mess.  But a beautiful mess indeed!  I love that it is available is a variety of colors that can fit so many designs.  I decided to make a burlap rag wreath that I have seen around blogland.  I itched and have swept up burlap for days after the fact, but the end result was so worth it!

This took 1 yard of black burlap.  I cut the strips 1/2 inch wide and 4 inches long.  The strips were tied onto a wreath form that had four rings on it.  The thin wooden letters came from Joann's Fabrics.  I painted them with an orange acrylic paint and then brushed on orange glitter paint to bling them up!  Strips of ribbon hold the letters on.  This wreath was given to a friend of mine.

Here is the one I made for my garage door
Orange burlap, Larger wooden letters were Mod Podge with scrapbook paper and then blinged up with orange glitter paint, and a cute Halloween bucket that has been sitting in the bottom of my decorations for years.

Lots of ribbon add some pops of color against the burlap!
This is a nice welcome for the kids when coming into the house!

This was a fun simple and quick project.  I made each one while catching up on my soaps!

Oh these are adorable!! I love the lettering on the orange one and the contrast of black and orange in the other one. So cute and creative. I made a pumpkin out of burlap yesterday and I know what you mean about a love hate relationship with it. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Lacy, Your wreaths are adorable. Can you believe I have never seen burlap in any color other than natural? Where have I been?

LOL! I agree with you about burlap being an itchy messy thing to work with. Thank goodness it's so inexpensive and like you say comes in so many colors these days.

Both wreaths are really cute!

I absolutely LOVE these wreaths! Well done. I'll tell you I love the look of burlap, but it does have it's drawbacks. I had a Hawaiian themed BBQ a few years back and had 8 tablecloths made for big round tables. It was a big party, let me tell you how heavy ribs for 75 people are! Anyway they looked fab, but they shed like crazy and did have that musty burlap smell which bugged me. I put them through the wash and they got pretty mangled. Oh well.

Both of your wreaths are pretty, but there is something very striking about the contrast in the black wreath.

I know what you mean about burlap. I worked with it a few times years ago and hated it so much I barely touch the stuff now. Too bad since it seems so popular these days, but I just don't want to fool with it. May have to change my mind someday to have a cute wreath like yours.

Very cute wreath! My group of crafting friends have already met and made out Halloween Craft (a few posts back) but this is so fun, I may just make my own. OR, maybe we can put a Thanksgiving or Christmas twist on it and do it for our next craft group. I'll be sure and give you a shout out on my blog when I post mine. Happy Fall Ya'll from Houston!

I loved this so much that I tried making my own. I cut my strips 1/2 inch by 4 inches. 4 inches isn't long enough to tie around the wire wreath form. Are you sure yours are 4 inches?

I found that 10 inch pieces are perfect for the wire wreath forms. I ran out of burlap because I cut so many 4 inch strips before testing it out. After some trial and error, the 10inchers work beautifully! I can't wait to finish my wreath tomorrow after picking up some more burlap.

Hi there, you should probably change the 4" directions. I did the same thing as Michella, and now I also have to order more burlap because I wasted so many pieces. 8" works pretty good too.
