Take a look;
This is what I looked at everyday for the past 2 years!
Gross!!!!
Really? Nothing like brassy gold with shiny laminate blades!
Ughhh!
My mom sent me a pic of a fan similar to mine that was in a oiled rubbed bronze and suggested that I paint mine. I really wanted this one gone, but after serious shopping I decided to go for the paint.
Yep, that's right I painted right there in my living room.
No guts No glory was my initial pep talk. After hanging all the newspaper and covering everything in sight I got cold feet. But I pushed them on.. And.....
Tada!!! Liberace is gone and a dark oiled rubbed bronze ceiling fan is in!
Even the fan blades got a new coat of paint
And clear seeded glass globes finish off the new look
So, so, so, so ,so, so much better! Don'tcha think?
I used one can of Oiled Rubbed Bronze spray paint by Rustoleum for the whole project.
The seeded glass globes came from Lowe's and cost $21.00 for all three.
Total cost was $27.00! Not to shabby to give new life to a perfectly ugly ceiling fan!

That looks great! I once had a very Duran Duran 1980's fixture in my house...it was so lame...I couldn't even spray paint it. This looks beautiful!.
Dang!!! That made a big difference! Looks great!
That is such a drastic improvement! Love it!
Love!!! But I don't think I would have been brave enough to paint right there on the ceiling! I am a wimp. Thanks for linking.

Beautiful makeover, Lacy.
WOW! What a difference..I painted a celing fan once, it never worked right after that..the blades were off balance, but I didn't use spray. I found your blog on The creative girl friendly Friday..stopping in to say hi.
WOW That ceiling fan looks AMAZING!!! I love Fifi too! I saw you on Frugalicious Friday and decided to pay you a visit since I'm new too! :)
Love this! Totally changed the look and character of your fan and it didn't cost a ton of money. It's a win win!
Oh yay!!!!!! We just moved and have crazy old ceiling fans everywhere in our house too and I was looking for ideas...now I have one..YAYA!!! :) THank you! :) I love it! (I know I used alot of exclamation marks but I really am that excited to see how easily you transformed your fan)
That turned out AMAZING!! I love that you reused what was there instead of buying a whole new light! That's awesome!!
Are you kidding? That's tremendous! And you saved it from the landfill, so doubly awesome!
You did a great job on the fan and it's a HUGE improvement!! I'm your newest follower from New Friend Friday...hope you have a great weekend!

You did a great job. It's amazing what a can of paint will do. I am a big Rustoleum fan too.
I just painted 3 brass light fixtures in my bath. Check it out if you get a chance.

isn't it silly that we live with stuff we can fix with a small amount of time and money! i am so glad you took 'control'! and changed your fan to suit you. you did a really beautiful job and the globes you chose are a perfect complement to the color and feel of the fixture! let's give your mom a high five for being the idea lady!!
all the best,
donna
Much better! It looks like an entirely different fan... well done.
Absolutely! I love it.

Hi Lacy, Just wanted to let you know I featured your fan today. Stop by and grab a featured button if you like. Thanks again for joining the Sunday Showcase Party - I greatly apprecite it! ~ Stephanie Lynn
I have a ceiling fan like that. I have wanted my hubby to take it down so I can paint it for years. I can't believe you did it while it was up. Didn't the spray paint float all over everything?
I love the transformation.
Brooke
Back in the 70s, I loved brass. Now, I grab my spray paint and voila!--- Behold a new beauty! --- Your fan is AWESOME!!!! TFS!
What a great transformation. It looks like a very expensive fan now.
Hugs, Sherry
BEAUTIFUL!
I love the light fixture now. The ORB finish really makes the light sophisticated.
Sarah
Wow-as they say mothers are always right ! :-)
So you just spray painted right up there ? it loooks wonderful
I have one of those light fixtures at my cabin. It's not really fixed on the roof that good so when you turn the fan on it starts shaking. Scares the crap out of me.
