Molly's Bedroom Reveal

Molly's vibrant pink room is 99% done.  I will not have her new fan and light until the end of the month.  So just ignore the gaudy white & gold fan.

Pantone, the leader in color forecasting, announces the "Color of the Year" is Honeysuckle.    The color is along the lines of a reddish pink or raspberry.  To read more about Honeysuckle visit Design Dazzle.  The wall color I chose is called Very Berry by Valspar.  I painted her room in December of 2009 for her birthday.  It has taken this room a while to evolve.

Let me know what you think.  Is there anything I should add or take away?

Valspar & Hibiscus

What does Valspar and a Hibiscus have in common?
Pure entertainment and a bit of self satisfaction for me.

My special package with a free sample of paint and $5 coupon from Valspar arrived on my doorstep Saturday.  Woohoo (insert a little happy dance here)!!!!
Have you gotten yours yet?  You still have a chance.
Visit Valspar to participate in the Power in Color Giveaway to get your very own.

Here is what you get:
This is my new daily mantra!

How cute is that roller?

I was hoping this was the perfect color I have been searching for for the kids bathroom.
It wasn't.  But no fear.  I had another idea.

After browsing a few websites the other day I stumbled upon the
Savannah artist Bellamy Murphy.
Jane Coslick Cottage Collection also sells her work on her website.
I loved her work and could not get enough of her brilliant colors
and whimsical take on coastal life.
Bellamy's works are large canvas paintings.
The size of the art and the price point do not fit in with my small home and budget.

The more I looked at her paintings the more I thought, hey, I can do this!
I had a 8x10 canvas and grabbed my new paint sample and some other
paint I had lying around and got creative.

It did not fit in the space I was hoping for, but my sweet Mom asked if she could have it.
(After she laughed at me for painting a Hibiscus)

So off it goes to Sarasota and off I go to paint a blue crab!
Now, you go and register for your free sample of paint!
Thanks Valspar!

Furniture fit for a Princess!

I have been trying to re-do my daughter room for over a year now.
Why do something today that you can put off to another day right!
I am almost done and I wanted to show you her up-cycled
furniture that has been given a new life.

This is the before.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the desk.  But it was the same color.
Both pieces were purchased at a furniture consignment shop for $40 each.

Each piece was sanded and painted with 3 coats of Valspar's Swiss Coffee.
Minwax Finishing Paste was the final step.
The hardware on the desk was found at Lowe's for $6 each.
The frame was found at a thrift store for $4!

I still have a chair to finish and recover, the frame will hold a bulletin board,
I need new lamps and a chandelier.
I have some really fun artwork that I will reveal this week.
And of course I did this very in-expensively.
Hopefully all will be done by Valentines day!

Let me know what you think!

I am linking up with these parties!

Pottery Barn Finial Tutorial

Here is the tutorial for my Pottery Barn Decorative Objects that I featured yesterday.
Getting this look for less is so simple,
it made me wonder why I didn't do this so much earlier???
I had started putting the candlesticks together with the finials and started painting them and then just moved on to another project.  I purchased the smaller candlesticks for 29 cents each at Goodwill.  A few of the finals came from there as well.

I had already started painting them when I remembered to take a before pic!

Lets get to the steps;
This is the base for the largest finial.
It is metal and started out black.

The two pieces were attached with Gorilla Glue.
The cup of the base is so deep that this took a lot of glue!!

One end of these pieces had a screw and the other end had an opening.
I enlarged the small opening with my drill and screwed the two pieces together.
I did enforce the bond with Gorilla Glue.

Here it is with 3 pieces put together.

A untrained monkey could do this!

Tada!

The other finials were simply glued together!
Lets move on the the paint finish....

Each pieces was spray painted black.
Once dry I went over it with a cream color spray paint.
Next, I hand painted each one with a latex semi gloss paint.
My paint choice is Valspar Angels.
Once dry, I took 80 grit sand paper and distressed them until I liked how it looked.

Glazing is the final step.
I slather the glaze all over the finial and wipe off slowly until I achieve the look I was after.

I hope you will take a stab at creating a cheaper version of the catalogs we all love!
I am not stopping here!

Enjoy!
