A House Tour: Pappy's Office

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!  We had a great visit with family but I was glad to be back in my home again!  I wanted to share another room in Mom's house with all of you!

Pappy (my step-dad) is a V.P. of scenic elements for Feld Entertainment.  They are the company that brings you Disney on Ice and The Ringling Brothers Circus.  Pappy's office is used to work on his art and design for the next show he is working on.

A silver golf trophy sits in the place of honor for this year.
Notice the curious elephant looking down to the next shelf.

Two silk lavender plants in urns sit on top of the bookshelves

Pappy's easel always has something new on it.
The bookshelf is full of art supplies.

This chair was purchased in Gainesville, Ga. 10 years ago.
It moves around Moms house a lot!

More of Moms house will be featured this week.  I hope you enjoyed this quick tour.
It is time for Tabletop Tuesdays with Marty at A Stroll Thru Life.
Hop over for a visit and get inspired!

Confessions of a Magazine Hoarder

Hello, my name is Lacy and I am a magazine hoarder
Can I get an Amen?  I love magazines and study each page. I look up the designers and envy the ads!  I enjoy women's magazines full of how to's, housekeeping tips and recipes.  Celebrity and gossip mags are fun to drool over designer clothes and dream of once again having a great body.  Gardening mags are inspirational and always get me motivated to go outside and tend to the yard.  But Home magazines are like feeding candy to a baby.  I can't get enough.
Throw in a showcase or idea home and I may be awhile!

Men Beware: A good Interior Design magazine can lead to shopping spree's, lots of DIY, and strange men coming into your home looking around and leaving quotes on your kitchen table!

This is a genetic disorder.  And could cause the females in a family to ooh and aah over the pages during family get togethers!

All kidding aside I decided that I had a problem when I was trying to figure out where I would stash the latest bags of magazines that I brought home from my moms.

This is the stacks that I had to choose from while visiting my mom.
There were over 6 months of different magazines and a few 2009 issues.
Pappy was very glad to see them leave his office!

Here they are laid out on my living room floor.
I also have a basket full of Southern Living and Traditional Home.
The green folder is full of articles, pictures, recipes, gardening ideas and
holiday ideas that have been cut out of old issues.

I also have 2 drawers full in my coffee table.
The shelf underneath is also full!
(Yes that is my hubby's leg!  He said I was being silly and would not move!)

My mom has a portion of her armoire full of back issues of her favorites.  Like I said it is a genetic defect!
I try to go through my collection every few months and tear out the pages I like and discard the rest.
Some are just too precious to cut up.

What do you do with your magazines?
Do you need to stand up and introduce your self too?
Remember admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery!

I plan to enjoy a good portion of these this weekend while visiting Lake Placid for Memorial Day!
Lake Placid is the Caladium capitol of the World!  Hopefully I will be bringing some bulbs home to plant!

If you like what you see, look around, chat with me!  I love new friends!
Happy Memorial Day!

Mom's Guest Suite

When I started my blog I knew that I wanted to share my Mom's house with everyone.  The house has an unusual layout that is great for entertaining and perfect for visitors.  The front doors open into a screened patio with a small resistance pool.  The guest suite is located within this patio area but is freestanding from the main living area.  This space has gone through numerous changes since they moved in.  The room is very calming and comfortable.

The hotel duvet is a light aqua and is serene against the sand walls and black furniture.
Pottery Barn adjustable arc sconce takes the place of traditional table lamps and allows guest to fill up the side tables with their necessities.

This is the view from the bath.  Large glass doors open to the patio and offer a view into the main house.

This cute wooden bench is the latest addition to the room.  This offers guest a place to put their luggage.  My Step-Dad is a talented artist and will soon paint the top to add a little more character.

The guest bath is my favorite room in the house.  This space just lifts my spirits.
Grass cloth wallpaper covers the walls and adds to the beach feel.

Two large windows keep the space bright.  Sheer burlap tab top drapes with shells sewn on offer a nice filter for the light.  Shells found on Lido beach line the window sill that the grandkids love to play with.

Starfish dance along the sink.  Lead glass jar filled with shells add a little dressy feel to the room.  The glass carafe is not only practical for guest but also beautiful.  Both glass pieces add to the open feel of the bath.

View of the shower and opposite window.  The mirror pops from the grass cloth covered walls.

White tile keeps the space crisp and clean

A single glass jar keeps the large counter understated

Simple pops of color

The shell wreath adds whimsy.
The wreath and large fish in bedroom both came from The Hidden Gate in Sarasota

The hot air balloon art is hand painted on solid wood.  These belonged to my grandmother.  My grandfather hated them and thought she paid too much for them.  My mom always loved them and was thrilled to get them.  I have always loved these too and hope to own them one day!  (Just kidding Mom)
And they fit into this space perfectly.  A small painting of shells was done by my step-dad's father.

A final view from the bed overlooking the patio and pool.

I hope you enjoyed a tour of my Mom's guest suite.  There will be more to come in the following weeks.  In the meantime, I will be celebrating my middle son's 10th birthday today.  We are having a bowling party and following up with laser tag!  I can't wait for birthday cake!

No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane

I had the pleasure of seeing Mary Poppins the musical at the Tampa Performing Arts Center on Sunday with my daughter and mother-in-law!  What a great ending to a fun weekend!  I was blown away by the dancing, singing and sets!  The best part was watching my daughter enjoy one of her favorite movies on stage.  She sang, dance, laughed and smiled the entire 3 hours!

Prior to the show we arrived early and walked around the center that is located on the Hillsboro river.  It was a beautiful day and we had fun hopping from one water feature to another.  Since I had one of my favorite subjects with me I decided to take some pictures for you to enjoy.

I love the chandeliers!

Thanks ChiChi!  It was a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious kind of day!

Go visit Disney to see if Mary Poppins is coming to a town near you.  Disney also has a video about the musical that is fun to watch.  I promise you will not be disappointed!

I am linking up to A Southern Daydreamer's Outdoor Wednesday party!
Go visit all the beautiful pictures featured!  You will be inspired.

Shopping in Sarasota

My sweet little girl and I went on a road trip this weekend to visit my mom in Sarasota.  I love, love, love to shop when we visit!  Sarasota has a great fabric store, lots of thrift and consignment store and the best Goodwill!  This particular visit we headed to a silk floral store that I have been dying to visit.  My mom always has the best floral arrangements and I wanted to see this place.  Girls I found silk floral Mecca!

Lux Art Silks International is a "designers resource for unmatched style, realism, and elegance in permanent botanical's."  Their headquarters and warehouse is located in Sarasota, but they also found in High Point, NC and Dallas in the World Trade Center.  The show room was a little overwhelming and I found it funny when Mom said that is was a little empty today!  Lux Art has a huge sale every July and the deals are unreal.  Mom never misses!  The showroom becomes a winter wonderland in September!  Cheryl Gilbert the showroom manager said there will be over 24 trees fully decked out with a different theme for every taste.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven in the showroom, but then came the warehouse!  Isle after isle of ribbons, sparkles, Christmas ornaments, leaves, flowers, containers, topiaries and more!  There were stems of every imaginable flower, leaves, moss, bulbs, fruit, and vegetables.

Warning: Picture's will be blurry.  I had to use my camera phone!

Moss and floral balls hanging from the ceiling!
I will be doing this on my back porch!

This cute guy was in the warehouse

Large Spiral topiary

I hope you were able to get an idea of how pretty Lux Art's arrangements are.
If you are ever in the area plan to stop by, you will not be disappointed.
I will be back in July and September for more floral heaven (and this time I will pack my camera)!

More Thrifty Treasures and Setbacks

It has been a busy month with a few set backs.  Baseball tournaments have begun and will continue through the entire month of June!  UGGGHH!

A car accident put some setbacks in our plans this month!  I was traveling home from town with my kids and a friend of theirs when a 20 year old college student made a u-turn into lane.  I had no time to slow down and get out of the way.  I broke my right thumb and sprained my wrist.  No one else was injured!  Thank God!  The kid that hit me had no insurance and my car (affectionately known as "Dirty Girdy") suffered $5k in damage.  Needless to say I haven't had use of my right hand for about a week (which is no picknik!).

I have now resumed somewhat of a normal life and was fortunate enough to travel down to Sarasota over the weekend with my daughter to visit my mom.  We had a great time shopping, goofing off and eating way to much food!

Here is a few of my bargains

All of these were found at a Goodwill in Sarasota

Ironstone pitcher $3

Large glass apothecary jar for $7

Baseball Nutcracker for my son $1

Hanging wall pocket $1

I bought these pillows at a furniture store for $5.99 each.
You can't buy a 20"x20" pillow form for that price anywhere!

16 piece snack set for $12 at my local hospice thrift store!
I love snack plates and have a special post planned for them!

Each plate and cup have the latin meaning for each fruit!

I also bought a few books and came home with a bunch of stuff from my moms!  I took tons of pictures of her house that I will be featuring this week too!

My weekend was finished off with a trip to the Tampa Performing Arts center to see Mary Poppins!  More from that soon too!
